Kids these days

I know I'm only 27 but I'm starting to feel like I've got one foot in the grave. Maybe it's not so much an age thing as a resistance to progress. Here I am blogging, joining the technological bandwagon, in fact I have never been one to fear technology. However, I hate instant message speak. The acronyms and abbreviations drive me completely out of my gourd. I have a special hatred for "LOL". Firstly, I hate it simply for being part of, perhaps the begining of, the instant messaging abbreviation trend. Secondly, I think it has become the most overused three letters in history and I hate it for that as well. I hate it in every application, but I hate it the most when people use it in actual conversations, live in person (or over the phone) conversations. What could the purpose possibly be? It's evidence of the fact that it, a long with so many other things, actually has no meaning anymore. If your speaking with someone one and they can see you or at least hear you then you don't need to tell them that you are laughing out loud, and if you have the capacity to tell some "LOL" it is more than likely that you are not, in fact, laughing out loud. Not to mention that it has no purpose since there is no necessity to conserve characters in actual speech like there is when typing an instant message.

Of course hate is a very strong word, dismayed might be more appropriate.
